Week 5 - Business Assessment Purl Soho is a brick and mortar, as well as online, business that specializes in higher end fiber and fiber arts supplies.  This is the place I go to purchase my luxury yarn to knit and weave with.  They have a library of free patterns for knitting, crochet, embroidery, sewing, and weaving available on their website.  Their patterns reflect their website and social media presence perfectly.  Modern, understated, and clean.   www.purlsoho.com (double weft scarf pattern) Their LinkedIn page is understated and provides basic details about the company, its size, and the physical location map (although the physical store is still closed as a result of the pandemic).  One is able to go to the website via the link provided on the page.  On Instagram they post pictures of new patterns along with the information about sizes and yarns to use for knit and crochet projects.  Facebook adds an extra element of being abl...

W eek 4 - Digital Native or Immigrant Digital immigrant vs. digital native(source: www.craigaharrington.wordpress.com) Being a Gen Xer I definitely fall into the Native Immigrant category, as defined by Marc Prensky in his article Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants .  I grew up playing video games and had a personal home computer but they were very different from today's technology.  Heck, I didn't start texting until 2009.  I still prefer a physical book to looking at a screen to read and hand writing my notes for class.  But I am adapting to the newer way of learning.  I made the choice to attend OSU eCampus (fully online) for my last two years of school instead of physically going to the University down the road.  It takes me a little bit of time to get comfortable with new technology but I am resilient and adaptable.  I found a tool that bridges my love of handwriting notes and saving paper/uploading them to my laptop: the Rocketbook!  Those...

Week 3 - Knapp's Relational Model  Image: RaykLiu - Wordpress.com Friendships are marvelous, and even necessary, to have, especially as an adult.  They require care and maintenance to last for years.  Sometimes they have hiccups and bumps in the road.  Sometimes they terminate for months, years, or forever.  This year I went through the Avoidance and Termination phases of Knapp's Relational Model with a friend of mine.  We met almost seven years ago on the job at a retail store and felt an immediate bond, like best friends or sisters.  We saw each other change jobs, move, change relationships, struggle and succeed at many things.  At the height of our relationship we talked on the phone everyday and we met up in person about once a week to hang out.  When I moved into my boyfriends house and went back to school we saw each other rarely and talked infrequently.  Her priorities shifted so that she was in constant contact with her husband a...

Week 2 - Oversharing Online 2. The ideal number of "friends" or connections one has on Facebook would be small and limited.  There are benefits to having an online social media account including staying in touch with family and close friends.  The primary reason Facebook was created was to keep University students connected.  What it has blossomed into today is a big scary monster for many, including myself.  Personally, I started an account around 2008 and did not have positive experiences with it.  Some of the challenges I had with it were seeing my ex-husband's posts with his new girlfriend, an ex boyfriend stalking me, and comparing myself to others with how many "likes" they got with their weekly selfies.  In 2014 I closed the account and have never posted in general on there again.  A couple of years ago I made a new account that I solely use to read specific group pages, like the OSU Ecampus Students page.  Today, I primarily use Inst...
